Our Story

A Journey of Friendship, Giving, and Purpose

The Goulet Cares Project Foundation was born from a simple act of giving and a shared spirit of compassion that crossed continents.  In 2023, our journey intertwined with the Amy Bell Blue Bag Foundation.  When friends Mike and Joni Bedard heard we were traveling to South Africa, they encouraged us to fill the blue bags they had left behind with locally purchased supplies.  We did just that with the help of our friend Pieter Viviers from Marupa Safaris.  We delivered much-needed school supplies to a small school in Plooysburg, South Africa.  There, we were asked a simple but powerful question: “Can you continue to help?” Those words became the heart of our mission.  From that point, we started our venture.

Going Strong

Through heartfelt meetings and new friendships, we partnered with Dream Team Safaris to support the Morester Orphanage in South Africa. During our most recent trip, we experienced the beauty of their land and the warmth of their hospitality. Around campfires and dinner tables, meaningful conversations unfolded—centered on community, sustainability, and caring for children in need. It was there that a 10-year strategic plan was created and refined, laying the foundation for long-term impact.

What began with a single blue bag has grown into a bridge between communities, continents, and hearts.  Today, the Goulet Cares Project Foundation is dedicated to enhancing the welfare of orphaned children by providing financial, material, and charitable support.  We are honored to work alongside Marupa Safaris and Dream Team Safaris, as well as the Minnesota SCI Chapter, the Lake Superior SCI Chapter, the Greater Dacotah SCI Chapter, and other chapters.

Together, we are teaching the importance of compassion through humanitarian efforts.

Because sometimes, all it takes is one bag, one question, or one connection to change a life—and sometimes, even the world.

Giving to Representing

Upon returning home, a single phone call to Larry Bell, founder of the Blue Bag Project, confirmed what we already felt—this was the path we were meant to follow.  Our mission originated with the support and guidance from Marupa Safaris and continued in the Minnesota SCI Chapter, through the Lake Superior SCI Chapter in Hinckley, and ultimately came full circle in Rapid City, South Dakota, with the Greater Dacotah Chapter of SCI. Each step deepened our commitment to giving back, especially to the communities that first inspired us.

The Rapid City SCI Show became a turning point.  One email led to a conversation, and that conversation sparked a vision.  As blue bags began filling once again across Minnesota, we saw the beginning of something greater—a foundation not just built on donations, but on connection, compassion, and shared purpose.

The Greater Dacotah SCI Chapter introduced us to Dream Team Safaris of South Africa.  What started as a friendly connection at the Greater Dacotah SCI Show blossomed into something far greater. This lasting friendship inspired meaningful partnerships, unforgettable experiences, and a renewed sense of purpose.

Together with Marupa Safaris and Dream Team Safaris, we are now supporting orphans across South Africa.
